Warm, character-led fantasy
A disabled transgender woman and longtime member of the furry community, Emma creates warm, character-led fantasy shaped by music, humour and the families people build for themselves.
Her work spans fiction, original songs and visual storytelling, with each medium contributing to the wider Bard Universe.
Broken Strings
Emma’s first novel, Broken Strings, introduces readers to Emma the Bard, the village of Dunmoanin and a world where songs can make magic—although not always the magic their singer intended.
A self-taught creative path
Self-taught across writing, music and visual media, Emma believes that creative experience does not have to follow a formal path.
She lives in Surrey and continues to develop the stories, characters and songs of the Bard Universe through Hearthlight Creative Studios.
Behind the performer and the studio
Emma Townsend is the author, artist, developer, producer and lyricist behind the work, as well as the person behind the Emma the Bard performer.
Emma the Bard is the character-led creative property and performing identity within the wider Hearthlight studio.
